'MANAGEMENT EVENTS'

With an international flavor all over and the cause of ‘Global Warming’ at its heart, Amaze—the liveliest B-School Fest organized by The Indian Institute of Planning and Management, Bangalore lived up to its name and then some. 60 B-Schools and colleges from all over India had almost a 1000 participants battling it out across diverse competitions from a global debate to a karaoke challenge across three days of nonstop festivities.

Most intensely fought competition of Amaze 08 was Youthquake—The ‘Breakthrough’ manager which saw 60 bright young minds fight it out over two days to be chosen the ‘breakthrough’ manager. After an intense day of various challenges from quizzes to auctions to presentations, the contestants had to conquer outbound challenges at Breakthrough India—a leading outbound training outfit specializing in building high potential teams. And finally, after a grueling stress interview, Abhijit Singh Jhala of IIPM, New Delhi walked away with the title of the ‘Breakthrough’ manager for Amaze 2008!

And then there was the unique photography contest—Click, presented by Pixetra. The theme was ‘A moment in time’ and amidst some exquisite entries judged by Subir Shivram, and avid wildlife and nature photographer and the founder of INW (India Nature watch), Srivatsa Bhargav’s silhouette freeze frame of a kid jumping off a rock into the water won the top honours.

The contests in the other arenas were fierce too as teams cracked financial quizzes and debated burning finance issues in ‘The Index Factor’—A complete CFO workout. The quizzes remained popular as ever with over 100 teams going through the qualifying rounds. The Sixth Sense—the brands and business quiz hosted by Mr. Arun Babu, an avid quizmaster and the head of corporate communications at Khoday’s Group was won by Abhinav Mouli and Karthik B G from Christ College. Sportquest—the sports quiz was conquered by the sports buffs Miraj Vora and Eldrich Rangel from Christ College while the exceptionally talented team of budding doctors from St. Johns Medical College captured the ‘Ad-Struck’ mad ads competition. Manana—the marketing event which was aimed at identifying the team that can be the ‘Best Retailer’ was won by the team from IBMR and ‘Sights Sans Sounds’—the Dumb Charades first place went to Christ College.
