BONEY M FEATURING MARCIA BARRETT

Finally, on Saturday, 8th March the stage was set for the most awaited and anticipated event—the biggest retro music concert featuring Marcia Barrett of Boney M! Crowds started thronging the venue—palace Grounds—from 5PM onwards as they hustled for space to sit in the corporate lounge and even space to stand at the back! It was a spectacular sight as a crowd of about 30,000 had built up by 7PM, the starting time of the show with thousands still waiting outside in the traffic. The band Aurko took the stage first and performed admirably with a mixture of covers and their own compositions spreading the message about Climate Change and the need to do something about it. Then, DJ Swing took over setting the mood for the grand retro night before Boney M took centerstage. And finally at 9PM, the moment arrived with 35,000 people from ages 7 to 70 cheering at the top of their voices the moment Marcia opened the show with ‘Take the heat off me’. From then on it was number after platinum number (yes, all the favourites were there—‘Belfast’, ‘Rasputin’, ‘Daddy Cool’, ‘Rivers of Babylon’, and ‘Holiday’) belted out by Marcia and her energetic troupe that left everyone spellbound. It was a heartening sight to see granddads swaying to the music of their times and enjoying it as much as their grandkids did! The 90 minutes just did not seem enough as chants of ‘once more’ filled the air. But then, all good things do come to an end, and so did this biggest retro concert in Bangalore city. But not before the city had been rocked by the mesmerizing and powerful voice of Marcia Barrett, the magic of Boney M and the sheer energy of 35,000 people dancing and screaming in unison.
